Casted UP!

This specifically goes out to the ICE MAN! (you know who you are).

So I woke up this past Saturday morning and was going about my day. I went to sit down in my desk chair with my right leg under my left leg (old camp still of sitting). As I sat down I felt this bad pain in my ankle. So I looked at my ankle and low and behold it's swollen and you can feel the fluid on and around it. So I went to the doctor that day and they took x-rays of my ankle. The doctor came in looked at my ankle felt it a little bit and then he was going to go look at my x-rays (he didn't sound very positive at the time so I was a little worried it was something worse). He got back and told me good news, it wasn't broken just appears to be a bad sprain. He gave me this big hard cast to wear for about week and told me not move ankle from side to side but to flex it up and down so it wouldn't get stiff. Then after about week to start drawing the ABC's with my foot. Also of course there was the stay off of it (ummm....he didn't know I was in seminary) and the ICE it! My foot has been COLD for about a week. (in the picture to the right you can see the swollen ankle; in the picture to left you can see the not swollen ankle, and in the picture below the hard cast I've been in for a week)

How did I sprain it you ask? The answer is truly I HAVE NO CLUE!! I think from having sprained my ankle so many times in my life that playing Frisbee on the quad at my school (a field that is very un-level) I hit one those dips and my ankle jutted down in towards the ground making it swell and pose as a sprain.

It is getting better now. It is still swollen back by the tendon in my heel which makes me think something is still wrong but I don't know. Overall, I can walk better and I'm not limping around as much, but I haven't been able to play ultimate Frisbee for going on two weeks now. I will be glad to not have to wear this brace much longer!

ICE MAN I hope your doing better. If I had been in The Woodlands I would have brought you some ice for your head. My prayers have been with you!

Summer vacation

The last two weeks of August my family and I took a vacation in various areas in Virginia and D.C. The trip started with my mom and I driving back up towards school. We stay a couple of days in Atlanta, Georgia where we visited Georgia Tech Rambling Wreck Yellow Jackets University. This is the University my grandfather went to after WWII. We took many pictures of the stadium, dinning hall, entrance to Georgia Tech, and the Frat. house delta tau delta my grandfather was a member of. Then our trip took us to The World of Coke!!! A dream come true for me! I was very excited. The museum was actually really interesting and I got to take my picture with the coca cola bear. YAY!! My mom and I tasted a couple of different coke products from around the world. There is one from South Africa that taste like a pina colada, it was pretty good. Then there was another by the name of Beverly. Now first what kind of a name is this for a coke product drink. Secondly, it tasted that like really bad cough medicine the doctors used to love to give me as child. It also left a really bad aftertaste! Our next stop was Stone Mountain in Stone Mountain Georgia. Stone Mountain is place my mom went as kid to see the cravings on the side of the mountain of the civil war leaders of the south: Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson, and Robert E. Lee. Our family on my mom's side is related to Robert E. Lee so it was cool to see the craving read all about it.

A couple of days after we arrived in Richmond my dad and brother joined us. The first day we went to VA Beach and played in the water and laid out on the sand. We also played putt putt golf. I made a couple of holes in one and so did my mom and dad and brother. We had to keep an eye on my dad because he tried to cheat! My mom and brother tied and my dad and came in last. We also rented a four pedal bike and cycled up and down the beach on the walk. It was really fun the first time I have done that.

The second day we went up to Baltimore to see a Baltimore Oriel's game. We got a tour of the ball park. The ball park was really cool and clean. We got to see the press box, field, pitching warm-up box, and the club houses. The best part beside the game, was that we were on tour of the field at the time that the team was taking their team picture so we got to get our own photos of the whole team! SWEET!!

On Thursday I showed my dad and mom around Richmond all the "hot" spots and monument ave.

On Friday we went up to D.C. to the national mall and looked at the monuments their and then saw the Air and Space museum and American History museum. After that we went to the National Zoo. We got to see the baby panda and the momma and papa panda. It was really neat. We also got to see reptiles, coral, octopus, orangutans, and other animal life that is not at most other Zoo.

Then the fun was all over for this vacation year, but it was really nice to have my family with me in Richmond and see where I spend my time at school and the surrounding areas.
